Salt and Pepper Fest: Prompting is now Closed

PROMPTING FOR THE SALT AND PEPPER FEST IS OPEN CLOSED!

Before you run off to leave us all your fab prompts, please check out the general rules for this fest and the prompting guidelines below!

Prompt Guidelines

1. Anyone can leave a prompt regardless of whether or not you're planning on claiming one. Submitting a prompt doesn't commit you to anything.

2. You can leave up to five prompts. Prompts can be in the same comment or listed separately.

3. Prompts must be relevant to the theme of this community - any canon character at 50+. (i.e. a prompt focusing on Harry as a young parent would not fit.)

4. That said, we want all sorts of prompts! Fluffy, angsty, light or dark, gen, slash, femslash, het, threesome/moresome, character studies, mysteries, drama, comedy--anything goes!

5. Keep in mind that this is not a gift exchange. Your name will not be listed with your prompt in the claiming stage or when the fest is posting. Claimers will also be able to deviate from the prompt if their muse goes in a different direction (switch out characters, go with a different overall tone, etc.)

6. Prompts may be edited for clarity.

7. Prompting is open now until the end of Sat, Nov 15th (midnight, EST). We'll edit this post when prompting is closed.

Prompt Form

Leave your prompts by filling out this form in a comment below!

Brief explanation of the form:

Prompt: Can be as simple (word, phrase, song lyric) or as specific as you like. Please do not outline an entire plot, however. :D
Suggested Characters/Pairings: This is optional and can be left blank if you'd like!
Theme/Tone: Fluffy, angsty, etc. The overall mood. Also can be left blank if you'd like!
Additional Info: Here you can leave likes, dislikes, squicks, or anything else that doesn't fit above, but keep in mind that as this is not a gift, creators will not be required to stick strictly to these things. Also optional and can be left blank if you'd like!

Prompt: Everyone told Padma that she'd end up a spinster. She is. But she doesn't see the problem.
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Padma/any
Theme/Tone: character study, smut, romance, any
Additional Info: librarian!Pansy is awesome :3 Also, feel free here to portray a very sexually active Padma, or a demiromantic asexual Padma, or aromantic asexual.

LOL sorry about that. I meant Padma. I'm used to prompting Padma/Pansy a lot, and I was very exhausted when I wrote this. Sorry for the confusion é_è
torino10154: Cropped Hufflepuff crest (SDK_Patronus magic)

I thought so but didn't want to edit it without asking. Thanks!

Prompt: the effects of aging on magical tattoos
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Charlie Weasley? someone totally unexpected? (Maybe Molly or Minerva has one? or Argus? Neville? Maybe Severus has something besides the Dark Mark embedded in his skin?)
Theme/Tone:
Additional Info:

[identity profile] anguis-1.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: someone is 50+ and entering the first romantic relationship of their lives
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Argus Filch? Dennis Creevey? Irma Pince? Millicent Bulstrode? Filius Flitwick? Dudley Dursley? Stan Shunpike? Pomona Sprout? someone else?
Theme/Tone:
Additional Info: It’d be nice for it not to be AU, so anyone for whom there is no canonical evidence of a romantic relationship before the age of 50. Give the underloved characters some attention!

Prompt: Hagrid Redeemed. I find it hard to accept Hagrid as nothing more than this foolish, sentimental, loyal-dog type of person. One day he may overcome his insecurities, his past, and discover he's more intelligent and more capable than he ever believed.
As an older man, how does his life look, with or without a partner? What about Grawp? What about his Half-Giant background: did he try to find out more about his mother's family and make peace, as far as possible, with that side of him?
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Hagrid with or without a partner. Maxime?, Rosmerta?, Pomona?, Kingsley? Charlie? Any you want, really.
Theme/Tone: Any, except farcical
Additional Info: I can see Hagrid still in a hut on Hogwarts grounds, living alone or with a partner. He may be groundkeeper till a well advaqnced age, but it's up to you entirely.

Prompt: “I Don't regret the things I have done. I just regret the things I didn't do when I had the chance."
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Narcissa/Any
Theme/Tone: Angst is good
Additional Info: I picture this as her looking back on her life and perhaps seeing moments that maybe didn't go how she wanted.

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: The kids are finally out of the house and Molly, who's been doing a lot of erotic reading lately, has some things she'd like to try with Arthur. They're not as young as they used to be, however...
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Molly/Arthur
Theme/Tone: Playful, humorous
Additional Info: Having one or more of the kids stop by during their experimentation would be hilarious. :)

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: As she's gotten older (and divorced) she's really blossomed! Everyone wants a chance with her.
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Luna, Hermione, Ginny, Astoria, Pansy, or any other HP woman you'd like to see cutting a swathe through the (over 50) population. :)
Theme/Tone: Playful, sexy.
Additional Info: Horrified/embarrassed kids/grandkids would be fun. :)

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: Life in a wizarding old age community
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Minerva, Pomona, Poppy -- various Hogwarts staff after they retire.
Theme/Tone: anything but crack!fic
Additional Info: How does the magical world care for its elderly, especially when the elderly decide they can no longer effectively live on their own. A nursing home? An "assisted living" community? etc.

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: Minerva's Bucket List
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Minerva, any
Theme/Tone: anything but crack!fic
Additional Info: Minerva is retired from teaching, but not retired from life. Now that she has some free time and a generous pension, what does she want to see and do? With whom does she do it? Romance or gen is fine.

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt: The great secret that all old people share is that you really haven't changed in seventy or eighty years. Your body changes, but you don't change at all. And that, of course, causes great confusion. -- Doris Lessing

For whatever reason, an older character ends up babysitting for or traveling with a child or adolescent.
Suggested Characters/Pairings: McGonagall with Rose Weasley; Sprout with Neville's son; Flitwick with Teddy Lupin, Hooch with Scorpius.
Theme/Tone: anything but crack!fic
Additional Info: Have all the fun you like inventing reasons for the meeting -- maybe the child really doesn't want to go or is nervous, or the adult is reluctant/feels out of their depth , or they both find themselves accidentally thrown together (a broom accident or an injury or getting lost at the Quidditch World Cup).

Mods, I'm not sure if this prompt fits the fest, since the children/teens will have a major role and of course are not 50+. I'm happy to remove or revise the prompt if it's not acceptable as is.
torino10154: Close up of a person with teal hair and amber eyes (Teddy Lupin)

[personal profile] torino10154 2014-11-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine as long as it's a gen fic (which is how I'm reading it). Thanks for asking though.

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-16 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely gen. Thanks!

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt:Cross-gen: Starting with her crush on McGonagall in her student years, Hermione has always had a thing for older women. Now, as a 50-something, she finally has a chance for a relationship with of the older women she has long admired.
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Hermione with an older woman: McGonagall, Hooch, Sprout, Pomfrey, Rosmerta, Andromeda, Irma Pince, one of the lesser-known teachers (Vector, Sinistra).
Theme/Tone: anything but crack!fic
Additional Info: I'd be interested in seeing how Hermione and her partner deal with their age difference. It's not something they can ignore, even if things work out between them.

[identity profile] kellychambliss.livejournal.com 2014-11-16 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Prompt: Sex at age 90 is like trying to play pool with a rope -- George Burns.

Character A/Character B are not as young as they used to be. But they still like sex. Trouble is, the relevant parts don't quite work the way they once did.
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Minerva/Poppy, Minerva/Hooch, Hooch/Poppy, Minerva/Mad-Eye Moody, Argus Filch/Irma Pince, Flitwick/Aberforth Dumbledore, Sprout/Slughorn
Theme/Tone: anything but crack!fic
Additional Info: The characters could be in an established relationship or be coming together for the first time.
primeideal: Multicolored sideways eight (infinity sign) (Default)

[personal profile] primeideal (from livejournal.com) 2014-11-16 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Prompt: In their youth they were considered funny/eccentric. As an older adult, have they changed? Are they a respected voice of wisdom? Or reflecting the depths of the personality that were there all along?
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Lee Jordan, George Weasley(/Angelina Johnson), Luna Lovegood, etc.
Theme/Tone: Could be anywhere from funny to serious, or a mixture.
Additional Info: I prefer canon compliance and no explicit sex.

Two Prompts

[identity profile] queen-bellatrix.livejournal.com 2014-11-16 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Prompt: Minerva's feelings upon hearing that Rufus Scrimgeour "resigned".
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Rufus Scrimgeour/Minerva McGonagall or Rufus Scrimgeour and Minerva McGonagall, depending on whether you'd prefer a gen or romantic focus.
Theme/Tone: Frought/complicated, with a side of angst/grief, depending on where the muse leads.
Additional Info:Please don't blunt the real differences in political/personal views between these two. When I referenced her feelings above, I figured they would be a mess of contradictions. Some things I would especially love to see include: A complicated relationship, formed through a grudging respect despite their personal differences.
no matter how frought their personal interactions had become.
Politics.
The progression of their relationship over time, especially as Albus's relations with the Ministry worsened and Minerva's friendship with Albus deepened.
The impact of Minerva's growing political alignment with Dumbledore on their relationship, whatever form it takes.
The way that one can grieve for the best of someone while being appaklled by their excesses.

Prompt: "Politics, like rust, never sleeps." Richard North Patterson
Suggested Characters/Pairings: Rufus Scrimgeour/any
Theme/Tone: Moral ambiguity/angst
Additional Info: Much of this prompt comes from a small line in JKR's info about Dolores Umbridge as released on Pottermore. Essentially, she says that Umbridge managed to worm her way back into the Ministry because she was useful, and Scrimgeour had far larger problems facing him. I'd really like to see the political compromises necessary for winning a war explored; especially if/when those consequences go against ones own morals. This is a particularly apt question considering that Scrimgeour was only the third Auror to ascend to the Minister's chairs; most of these people are soldiers, not politicians; so, not only would he be dealing with ambiguous compromises, but he'd be learning to navigate the minefield that's politics, which's terrifying in peacetime.

As for the pairings, this would be fabulous as gen or het/slash. Personally, I love everything from Scrimgeour/Moody to Scrimgeour/one of the name only Aurors to Scrimgeour/Rita Skeeter (especially because so many of their ages are so ambiguous and can so easily fit with the rules of the com), if you wanted suggestions/wanted to branch out.
