I weighed the pros and cons of that, and I decided that I wanted their ages to be relatable to the "Muggles" who would be reading it and that that mattered more to me than canon compliance in this instance. I mean, I'm 41, and I punished my body enough in my youth that I've got myself a dodgy hip, too. I wanted Hermione to mirror those of us in our own middle age rather than hers. ;-) But honestly, I appreciate your close reading that made you think of that!
